Registrars and collections managers are the nerves of the art world. These logistical masterminds often possess a superhuman attention to detail coupled with an encyclopedic knowledge of all the works coming their way; from the paper it is printed on down to how that paper ages, and the best way to ensure it travels safely. Yet through all the condition reports, insurance forms, late night emails and solved mysteries, the stalwart registrar is often in the shadows.

Solution

The inaugural Registrar of the Year Award used two month public nomination, voting, and judging process to bring attention to registrars and logistics specialist. The winner Chief Registrar for the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden Rajshree Solanki received $5000 for her significant contributions to the field. The Registrar of the Year Award is organized and made possible by Atelier 4.
